Good Morning to All!

Well folks, I think we may have finally resolved my almost month long lockout from my dashboard! My deepest apologizes for not having the fishing report posted daily as I have intended to since I launched livedeckerscolorado.com  It’s much warmer this morning, already 54 degrees and going to warm up nicely today with a high of 86. I’m getting ready to ride downstream this morning and will be posting another update a little later on the fishing. Right now, we’ve got flows of the South Platte river below Cheesman Dam at 281 cfs, with 314 cfs at the Trumbull station.  With no real rain showers to speak of last night, Decker’s bridge area is flowing at about 300 cfs.  It’s going to be a busy weekend up here in Decker’s, so make those camping and cabin reservations now! In the meantime, pack up those waders, grab the kids and the tubes and head on up to Decker’s for one more summer send off to a fantastic 2016 summer season! Have a great morning!!

Good Evening Everyone!

Another rain free day in the valley and I just came in from an early evening of dry-fly action out back! Flows are at 281 below Cheesman Dam, 318 in Trumbull, and about 310/315 in Decker’s. Lot’s of big Maylflies on the water this evening, with two fish taken with a BWO, extended body with the foam wing! Nothing was really rising when I got to the river’s edge, but on the fourth toss of my fly which I threw tight to the bank, brought up a nice brown, followed shortly after with a smaller cut-bow. Not having much time myself in the last few days to fish, I haven’t had the chance to try many new fly combinations, but I’m hoping to get out there tomorrow and through the weekend.  The conditions have remained solid, with morning Tricos coming off until about noon, mixed in with some BWO’S, and the hoppers are everywhere!  Seems like the moss situation is improving, but still be prepared to clean your flies often.

The holiday weekend is upon us, so if you’re planning to camp at any of the three first come first serve campsites in the Decker’s area, I would advise getting up here no later than Thursday afternoon. They tend to fill up quick and the two campgrounds that take reservations most likely are full too! You can check the availability by visiting http://www.reserveamerica.com If you are interested in renting a cabin for the holiday weekend, be sure to check out http://www.southplatterivercabins.com The Decker’s Country Store and Flies and Lies both have cabins available for rent year round. Along with your lodging and outdoor activities information conveniently located in one website, livedeckerscolorado.com is also your one stop location for up to date fishing conditions in Decker’s and Trumbull. Be sure to bookmark my blog and I look forward to providing you current fishing and river conditions each day, from the beautiful South Platte River Valley, Decker’s, Colorado.

Good evening my fishing friends!

Well, today was the first day in about the last 5 or 6 that we haven’t had the afternoon thunderstorms. The morning temperatures in the valley are beginning to drop as we head into September and the fishing has been really fantastic! The measured flow on the South Platte today in Trumbull was a little higher than yesterday at 327 cfs. Below Cheesman we have 281 cfs, with it looking like 315 in Decker’s. No fishing for me today, but I did observe a nice rise occurring this morning downstream at Bridge Crossing,  as I cycled from Trumbull to Nighthawk and back.  Each morning, as I make this 20 mile ride during the morning hatch, I try to make note of the bugs that are stuck to my cycling jersey when I return.  Seems to be a pretty good way to find out what’s happening on particular stretches of river.  If you are looking to book a guided fly-fishing trip, a cabin for an extended stay or just for one night, be sure to check out Flies and Lies http://www.flies-n-lies.com

Have a great evening and I hope to see you on the river!

Howdy Folks!

Welcome back everyone!  We are making progress with GoDaddy and WordPress and we hope to be back to full blogging potential shortly! In the meantime, I will be doing my best to get connected each day to provide you the live river conditions and fishing report, here in Decker’s and Trumbull.   Current flows of the South Platte, below Cheesman Reservoir is 281 cfs, Decker’s estimate around 300 cfs, with a reading of 307 cfs, below Brush Creek, in Trumbull. The morning Trico hatch is still producing, but tailing off around noon. At the same time, we’ve had great success nymphing the drop-offs and faster moving water.  Several fish were taken with a sparkle-wing RS-2 (grey), purple juju beatis, black beauty, choclolate thunder, and all caught while trailing behind an indicator bug such as a Amys Ant, chernoble, or grasshopper.  The evening dry fly action has been great! Last night, around 7:45-8:00pm, the water came alive with a multitude of hatches and the fish were going air-born to eat the feast! Extended body blue wing olives, single parachute adams, and a single griffiths gnat, repeatedly brought up aggressive trout, as we fished until the rise was over. The moss has been pretty heavy, so be prepared to check your flies often. This can also cause you to lose a fish when hooked up, so keep that line short when nymphing and help your own cause.  Afternoon showers have continued to produce serious lightening and heavy downpours at times, so be sure to pay attention to approaching storms and seek shelter if necessary.  Keep in mind that Colorado ranks third, behind Texas and Florida, for lightening deaths each year. On the whole, the fishing has been great, fire danger is moderate,  the camp grounds still have a few openings for the holiday weekend, and the weather looks great for the Labor Day ahead!  That’s all for now my friends!   Looking to book a cabin or guided fly-fishing trip,  be sure to check out Flies and Lies at http://www.flies-n-lies.com.

Good evening my fellow Anglers!

It was another glorious  day on the South Platte river today my friends. The rain held off most of the day and the fish were active this morning on the Tricos and remained aggressive through the day! The current flow below Cheesman is 281 cfs, 318 in Trumbull, and putting Decker’s at about 310/320 cfs. No doubt that the bug of the day was the grey RS-w sparkle wing, size 24. The Chocolate Thunder was also another productive bug today as we mostly nymphed all day today. It’s going to be a busy weekend in Decker’s , so if your looking for some less populated water and less pressured fish, head on downstream towards Willow Bend and Nighthawk and you’ll be sure to have more room to yourself and the fish typically are less skeptical and sometimes you can get away with, let’s just say, “a not so perfect drift.” The tubers are still trying to get in the last few runs of the year, so be patient and the fishing doesn’t get affected that much. Please remember to pick up your trash and if you see someone doing something they shouldn’t be doing, SAY SOMETHING! Be sure to check out our Facebook page, livedeckerscolorado.com. Have a great day and I’ll see you on the river!
