Father’s Day Fishing

June 19, 2016

Good morning from the foothills of the Rocky Mountains!!!  Chef Chris  here, with your morning “Bug” and conditions report from Decker’s Corner, Colorado.  First of all, I would like to wish all the father’s out there a Happy Father’s Day!!  The river flow at Trumbull station is showing 421 (cfs) at 5:45 this morning, with good clarity and easily allCurrently, it’s 64 degrees in Decker’s, with a forecasted high in the mid-seventies.  The bugs coming off last night were thick! Midges, Caddis, and still a few BWO’S are bringing these fish up late, more towars the 8-9pm hours, but nymphing in Decker’s right now is really working well. The parking lots are filling up early on the weekends, so be prepared to get here early.  I walked early again this morning back to the “Wire”, didn’t see as many Midges or PMD’s like I did yesterday. There also seems to be fewer people parked on the YMCA river road, but the area will continue to get crowded as everyone is trying to escape the high heat by heading to the mountains.  Keep in mind that there is plenty of room downstreams from Decker’s, offering anglers plenty of pocket water, riffs, gravel bars and deep holes to try your luck and landing that record rainbow!! Have a great day and do something nice today, take a friend out for Ice Cream!!!
