Hello Friends!
Welcome to the daily fishing report my friends, let’s get right to it, shall we? Reached the low 60’s today, with plenty of sunshine and little wind. Flows are about the same, with 65 (cfs) just below the dam at Cheesman, and just about the same through Decker’s/Trumbull. Good news on the moss, it was considerably less of a pain in the butt today, but while nymphing in shallows, be prepared to clean your bugs often! Just as anticipated, the bugs really started coming off around 11 this morning, with midges and blue-winged olives. Believe it or not, I even saw some Tricos, of which I ended up throwing and catching one small brown! Before the Trico experience, I started out fishing some faster water that was dumping into a pool that was about 4 feet deep. Armed with a yellow egg and trailing a purple juju-baetis, I quickly hooked up on a nice brown on the juju. I tried to work this fish to the shallows, but it went deep, wrapped my line and left me in the dust! No worries though, by now the bubble line was producing some sipping fish, so I quickly grabbed my dry-fly pole and headed over to see what I could do. In about 40 minutes or so, myself and another fellow angler were able to get into 5 or 6 fish that were aggressively sipping on what appeared to be, dead BWO’S. With this being the pattern of the last two weeks or so, be sure to have plenty of smaller bugs, size#22 and #24 on both nymphs and dries. Underneath, I’ve been sticking with a standard, three-fly rig with either a San Juan Worm, or egg, following that with a variety of bugs like the RS-2, red zebra, fire midge, black beauty, and even the good old “chocolate thunder” All of these bugs can be picked up at Flies and Lies, located in the Decker’s Resort Shopping Center. If you’re looking for a great get-a-way for the night or the weekend, be sure to check out the cabins that are available for rent at http://www.flies-n-lies.com or http://www.southplatterivercabins.com. Both the fly shop and Decker’s Country Store offer the cabins for rent on their respective websites. Visit them for more information. Not going to be fishing tomorrow, but I’ll be out on the river all day Friday! Don’t forget to subscribe to our email list to be notified each time a new blog is posted! That’s all for today my friends! Hope to see you on the river soon!
