June 25, 2023-Floating update/Deckers
Floating Conditions for Sunday, June 25, 2023
Current flow through Deckers below the bridge is fast, at 461. It’s not crazy fast through the wider and deeper sections of the river. However, the more narrow and shallower sections can be pretty intense and intimidating for the younger floater. Currently, the water temperature is about 59 degrees. Good news! Higher daytime temperatures and plenty of sun make it feel much warmer. This flow rate is certainly acceptable for tubing. Just make sure that the younger ones in your group are comfortable with being in the river at this rate. with this flow. Realistically, I think this flow is more conducive for experienced Kayak users and those that may be comfortable on a stand-up paddle board. Also, be sure to be equipped with proper safety gear and never float alone. When the flow is at this rate it’s best to avoid the upper Deckers area and stick to the middle section of the river. The section of river I’m referring to is between Bridge Crossing day-use area and Scraggy View day-use area. The upper and lower sections present more of a rocky/rapid float that can be a little too much, not to mention could be terrifying for some less experienced floaters.. Please read the safety information below, as this should be your number one priority. Also, please keep in mind the rules around parking, camping, and day-use areas as you enjoy your time on the South Platte. BRING CASH! You cannot use your debit/credit card to pay for day-use fees. Please be aware that you will have to pay for each vehicle that enters the day-use area parking lots. What this specifically means is that ALL vehicles that are utilizing the parking lot must pay the $10 day-use fee. There is NO FREE TEMPORARY PARKING at the day-use areas along the river. Season passes for access to the day-use areas are only $100. Thanks for continuing to support the website and our National Forests. Hope to see you on the South Platte soon!
