July 8 @ 8:00 am

Volunteers for Outdoor Colorado

- Active / Mellow
- Mind / Body
- Independent / Social
Description
The Devil’s Head Fire Lookout is the last of four original Front Range fire lookout towers still in use. But due to its popularity and proximity to both Denver and Colorado Springs, the trail to the tower is in need of serious repair. Though physically demanding, this project includes free campsites, hot meals from our volunteer Crew Chefs, and the opportunity to be part of Colorado history!
Eligibility
- Ages: 16+
Purpose
***This is a 2-day project, and you have the option of signing up for one or both days. Please select the dates you would like to sign up for under ‘Additional Times’. The Devil’s Head Fire Lookout is on the National Register of Historic Places, and the trail leading to it is in need of some serious TLC. By repairing the trail, installing new steps, and replacing those in poor condition, you will help prevent erosion and allow both visitors and staff to continue to access and enjoy this historic place. Free camping will be provided along with breakfast and lunch from our volunteer Crew Chefs.
Role
On this project of approximately 50 volunteers, you’ll work together to continue the work that VOC volunteered began last summer. The majority of the work will be removing old, eroded timber steps and installing new ones. You’ll also have the chance to close unsanctioned social trails and repair drainage structures along the way.5
Vibe
Skip the gym and get a workout (and a history lesson!) while enjoying the outdoors. Campsites and meals provided!
