Hiking in and around Deckers, Colorado

Cheeseman Reservoir
Take U.S. 285 south about 21 miles to Pine Junction. Turn left onto Jefferson County 126 and follow this road about 21.5 miles. At the bottom of the last hill, the road makes a ninety-degree turn to the left. There is a large parking lot on your right. The very next right turn is Forest Service Road 211. Turn right and follow Forest Service Road 211 about two miles to the fork in the road. Take the left fork and drive another mile to the parking lot at the main entrance gate to Cheesman Reservoir.
Pets must be leashed at all times. Fishing is allowed only on the Goose Creek Arm of the trail and is not allowed from October 1 -April 30. No boating or camping is allowed at Cheeseman Reservoir.
Cheeseman Canyon Trailhead
This trailhead is located on Jefferson County Route 126 and is approximately 22 miles south of Pine Junction from Highway 285.
There are no fees to use this trailhead, but donations are accepted. There is no overnight hiking or parking allowed, and please park only in designated parking spaces.
This trail is considered difficult and is steep in many sections. There are no bathroom facilities on the trail and the only restroom is a vault toilet located at the trailhead.
Wigwam Trail #609
Located at the end Stoney Pass Road (Forest Road 560). Take Forest Road 211 from County Road 126 west of Deckers. At the “Y” junction of Forest Road 211 and Forest Road 560, go right on 560 to the trailhead road (Forest Road 545).
There are no fees to use this trailhead, but a self-issued permit may be required to enter this trailhead in the Lost Creek Wilderness area.
This trail is a less-traveled alternative to the Goose Creek Trailhead. Access is available year-round but may be limited in the winter due to snow pack. There are no facilities on this trail.
Goose Creek Trail (#612)
Reach via by Forest Road 211 at the south end from Tarryall Road (Cty Hwy No. 77) near Lake George or from the north end near Deckers. Includes a parking area and horse loading and unloading facilities.
There are no fees to use this trailhead, but a self-issued permit may be required to enter this trailhead in the Lost Creek Wilderness area.
There are no facilities on this trail.
Hankins Pass Trail #630
This trail is the southernmost trail in the Lost Creek Wilderness. The trail is easy to follow and heads in a westerly direction. There are horse corrals available for public use and various campsites are located between the trailhead and Hankins Pass
There are no fees to use this trailhead, but a self-issued permit may be required to enter this trailhead in the Lost Creek Wilderness area.
There are no facilities on this trail.
